HC Deb 24 April 1907 vol 173 c31
MR. SLOAN (Belfast, S.)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if he can give the names of the Colonial Governments who prohibit the landing of deaf mutes from the United Kingdom, and the reason given for such restrictions on this class of British subjects.

THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. CHURCHILL,) Manchester, N.W.

I am not aware of any Colony which prohibits the landing of deaf mutes from the United Kingdom, although powers appear to exist in all Colonies possessing responsible government and in other Colonies also to prevent such persons from landing if likely to become a charge upon public funds.
