HC Deb 24 April 1907 vol 173 c56
MR. SLOAN

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that on the Lake of Killarney at the present time boats are used that are not certified as seaworthy, and that the persons in charge are without a licence; and if the recommendation of the Lord-Lieutenant, made in 1903, after a boating accident on the lake, when thirteen lives were lost, namely, that all such boats should be certified, will be carried out.

MR. BIRRELL

The police authorities inform me that all the boats in use on the Lake of Killarney have been certified as seaworthy, and that no single instance of the use of an unseaworthy boat for the conveyance of passengers has come to their knowledge in recent years. The boatowners are not required, to be licensed.
