HC Deb 23 April 1907 vol 172 c1547
MR. DELANY (Queen's County, Ossory)

To ask the Postmaster-General under what circumstances a limited competition for male learners has been announced to be held in Dublin in April; is he aware that the limits of age are such as to prohibit postmen and those serving for some time as auxiliary sorting clerks and telegraphists from competing; and will he say for whom the vacancies are intended.

(Answered by Mr. Sydney Buxton.) A limited competition for male learners at Dublin was held on the 17th instant to fill vacancies which at present exist in the class of learner. The competition is restricted to telegraph messengers and other unestablished persons with at least one year's continuous service in the Post Office. The officers to whom the hon. Member refers are not required to pass through the class of learner. As I explained to the hon. Member for West Wicklow on the 12th ultimo, they will, in due course, be permitted to take part in a limited competition for direct appointment to the class of sorting clerk and telegraphist.
