ALDEN (Middlesex, Tottenham)I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether he will state when the Parliamentary Committee to inquire into the case of Assistant Clerks (new class), for which a petition signed by a majority of the Members of this House was presented to him on the 25th ultimo, will be appointed.
§ SIR H. CAMPBELL-BANNERMANThe pay and conditions of service of the Assistant Clerks have repeatedly received careful consideration in the last few years, and I do not think that any useful purpose would be served by referring the subject to a Parliamentary Committee.
