HC Deb 22 April 1907 vol 172 c1400
MR. ABEL SMITH

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been called to the incitement to Dublin parents to keep their children out of the Dublin telegraph messenger service on the grounds that it has for some years past worked as a means of forcing boys into the British Army; and whether he proposes to take any steps in the matter.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The police have no information that parents have been interfered with in this matter. The supply of candidates for appointment in the Dublin telegraph messenger service largely exceeds the demand. No action in the matter appears to be called for.
