§ LORD R. CECILI beg to ask the President of the Board of Education how many of the local education authorities in any of the years 1904, 1905, and 1906 spent on the non-provided schools in their districts not more than the amounts received by way of grants in respect of such schools.
§ MR. MCKENNAI have no information as to the sums spent by local education authorities upon individual schools, and, as I stated, in answer to my hon. friend the Member for Merthyr Tydvil, on Monday, separate accounts for the whole cost of individual schools, so far as I am aware, are not usually kept.
§ LORD R. CECILCannot the right hon. Gentleman obtain information, not in respect of individual schools, but in respect of the whole body of non-provided schools in each district?
§ MR. MCKENNANo, Sir, I am not able to do that.
§ LORD R. CECILCan it not be obtained by means of a circular from the Education Department?
§ MR. MCKENNANo, Sir, we have no authority to demand such information from the local authorities. In fact they do not keep their account in such a way as to admit of their giving it.
