HC Deb 15 April 1907 vol 172 c594
MR. PIKE PEASE

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if he can make any statement in regard to the application for loan and grant to Jamaica.

MR. MITCHELL-THOMSON (Lanarkshire, N.W.)

At the same time, may I ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is now in a position to state what requests for the provision of financial assistance have been received by the Government from the Jamaican representatives now in England; and what assistance by grant or loan the Government propose to give.

MR. CHURCHILL

The Secretary of State has only during the last day or two had an opportunity of listening to the statement of the Archbishop of Jamaica, who has introduced a deputation from the Colony. The consideration of the case is not yet concluded.
