I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he is in a position to lay upon the Table the proposals of the Government of China regarding the importation into that country of Indian opium, and the Report of the Government of India thereon.

The matter is under my consideration, and I do not think that it would be for the public interest to lay any of the Papers on the Table at this stage.
