HC Deb 10 April 1907 vol 172 cc213-4
MR. PIKE PEASE (Darlington)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any official information showing that Congo Free State troops are still occupying four stations in the Bahr-el-Ghazal, and that the Lado enclave is occupied by a force of 1,800 men; and, if so, whether he can explain the reasons which induce the Congo Free State administration to maintain so large a military force within striking distance of British territory.

THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. RUNCIMAN,for Sir EDWARD GREY) Dewsbury;

My right hon. friend understands that telegraphic instructions have now been sent to the Congolese Commandant at Lado, ordering the evacuation of all posts in Meridi.
