HC Deb 30 October 1906 vol 163 cc871-2
SIR W. J. COLLINS (St. Pancras, W.)

To ask the Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that, under cap. 6 of 21 and 22 Victoria, the officers of the East India Company's service were guaranteed pay, pension, allowances, privileges, and advantages as regards promotion as if they had continued in the service of the Company, and that such transferred officers were granted promotion accordingly from 1858 to 1891; and will he explain why since 1891 such promotion has been stopped.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Morley.): I am not aware of any instance in which the provisions of 21 and 22 Vic, c. 136, † See (4) Debates, clviii., s. 56, to which the Question of the hon. Member apparently refers, have been violated, nor have any representations been made to the Secretary of State on the subject for over ten years.
