§ MR. CLAUDE HAY (Shoreditch, Hoxton)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can now state the measures he proposes to take, or has taken, in reference to the petition of the prison officers in His Majesty's local prisons, asking that they may be placed upon the same scale of pay as the officers of His Majesty's convict prisons.
§ *THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. GLADSTONE,) Leeds, W.I have made proposals to the Treasury with a view to certain improvements in the position of these officers. I cannot yet make any further statement on this subject, but I hope to be able to do so shortly.
