HC Deb 15 November 1906 vol 165 c86
MR. MURPHY

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland if the Commissioners of National Education in Ireland can state the entire average cost per pupil per year in the primary schools of England, Scotland, and Ireland respectively during the last financial year.

(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) The Commissioners of National Education inform me that they cannot at present give the required figures for the financial year ending 31st March, 1906, but for the calendar year 1905 the entire average cost, defrayed from State and local sources, of each pupil in average attendance was about £3 3s. 9d. The Commissioners have no information as to the cost in England and Scotland.
