HC Deb 15 November 1906 vol 165 cc103-4
MR. SEARS (Cheltenham)

I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give a Return showing the amount of income-tax paid to revenue in respect of income which escaped assessment or was insufficiently assessed and subsequently re-assessed in England, Scotland, and Wales for a period of ten years to April, 1906; and will he state the number of taxpayers concerned and in respect of how many years the back duty was recovered.

MR. ASQUITH

I do not think that the information given by such a Return would be of sufficient general interest and value to justify the labour necessary for its compilation, which I am given to understand would be very considerable.
