HC Deb 13 November 1906 vol 164 cc1290-1
MR. STRAUS (Tower Hamlets, Mile End)

; I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, owing to the dearness of money which is hampering trade, he can see his way to bring in a short Bill compelling every bank to publish a balance sheet every month, showing weekly average gold reserves, with a view to increasing the gold reserves and cheapening money.

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. ASQUITH, Fife, E.)

I am not prepared to pledge myself to legislation on this subject, but in the consideration which I am giving to it my hon. friend may be assured that I shall not leave out of sight the important aspect to which his Question refers.
