§ MR. HICKS BEACH (Gloucestershire, Tewkesbury)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War what was the cost of maintaining the garrison at St. Helena during the last financial year; and what economy it is anticipated will be realised by the removal of the troops to other quarters.
§ MR. HALDANEThe cost of the garrison of St. Helena in 1905–6 was approximately £35,000. Practically the whole sum will be saved by the removal of the garrison, as the troops withdrawn are not required for service elsewhere.
