HC Deb 07 November 1906 vol 164 c533
ME. ROWLANDS (Kent, Dartford)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he has received applications from the Unemployed Committees of Dartford and Erith; and whether he has replied that they do not come within the limit of those who are entitled to contributions from the £200,000 set aside for the unemployed; if so, can he say what is the basis upon which the money allocated by Parliament is to be distributed.

(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) The basis upon which I am proposing to distribute the Grant is to limit payments from it to the places in which there appears to be exceptional need for assistance. I issued a Circular on the 12th October to certain distress committees in which I explained this, and stated that, on the information then before me, I did not propose to make any payment to them out of the Grant. The Circular was sent to the distress committees of Dartford and Erith, amongst others, and I have not since received any communication from them on the subject.
