HC Deb 07 November 1906 vol 164 cc552-3
MR. HAROLD COX (Preston)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that the † See (4) Debates, clxiii., 1116–7. Education (Provision of Meals) Bill, as drafted by the Select Committee, would apparently enable a local education authority to demand payment more than once for the same meal; and whether he will introduce Amendments to obviate this possibility.

MR. BIRRELL

I think it is not a convenient practice to attempt to deal, by means of Question and Answer at Question time, with the details of a Bill before it is discussed in Committee of the Whole House, but I may say that I am not aware that the effect of the Education (Provision of Meals) Bill, as drafted by the Select Committee, is as stated in the Question.

In answer to a further question,

MR. BIRRELL

said the local authority could make as many demands as it chose for the money until it was paid.
