HC Deb 05 November 1906 vol 164 cc107-8
MR. VINCENT KENNEDY (Cavan, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether the system of payment by results is that adopted in the Paymaster's Department of the War Office; and, if so, when was any change made; is it the practice to object to a claim which is smaller in amount than the scheduled charge; does the clerk or objector receive half of the original small claim on securing the acceptance of the larger though scheduled charge.

I beg also to ask the Secretary of State for War if he will state what amounts have been paid to officials in the Paymaster's Department of the War Office for detecting alleged errors in claims made against that Department for the past ten years, will he further state how many claims does the amount represent.

MR. HALDANE

The hon. Member is under a complete misapprehension as to the method of examining accounts in the War Department. The practice referred to does not obtain in the War Office.
