§ MR. T. SMYTHOn behalf of the hon. Member for North Longford I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether ho is aware of the complaints made as to damage to crops, etc., by the floods caused in wet weather by the overflowing of the River Riffey; and whether he will direct that one or two witnesses from this portion of county Longford be heard by the Commission on Drainage now sitting, with a view to the present state of things being remedied there.
MR. BRYCEI understand that two witnesses from county Longford, including the chairman of the county council, will probably be examined before the Arterial Drainage Commission; but I would remind the hon. Member that the Commission was appointed to consider what amendments of the law are necessary 1431 to enable arterial drainage works to be carried out, and not to inquire into the needs of particular localities.
