HC Deb 21 May 1906 vol 157 cc957-8
MR. MURPHY

I beg to ask the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that official communications to members of the Kerry County Council have been delayed in delivery owing to the fact that they have been addressed in the Irish language; whether this delay arises owing to such communications having to be sent to Dublin for translation; and whether, having regard to the practice of most of the public bodies in the county of Kerry addressing communications to members in Irish, he will take steps to secure that in the post offices of the principal towns of the county at least one official understands the native language of Ireland.

MR. SYDNEY BUXTON

Correspondence addressed in the Irish language in Kerry has to be sent to Dublin for translation. I do not see my way to take the stop indicated by the hon. Member.
