§ MR. LONSDALE (Armagh, Mid.)I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State j for the Colonies whether, in the event of white miners being thrown out of employment in the Transvaal in consequence of State-aided repatriation of Chinese coolies, compensation will be given to such white men from Imperial funds, or means to enable them to return to their homes.
§ MR. CHURCHILLThe hon. Member will recognise that it is impossible for the Government to state how it would deal with a purely hypothetical case.
§ MR. LONSDALEWill the same Consideration be extended to white miners as it is proposed to give to the coolies?
§ MR. CHURCHILLWhen the white miners are employed under the same conditions the matter will, no doubt, be pressed on the attention of the Governments.
