§ MR. BOLAND (Kerry, S.)I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that the Board of Education decided that it was illegal on the part of the West Riding County Council of Yorkshire to deduct one-tenth of the salary of the head-master in voluntary schools in respect of the time devoted to definite religious instruction; whether he is aware that a similar deduction is not made in the case of council schools; and can he say what steps the Board of Education intend to take as a result of the inquiry hold in last June.
§ THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (Mr. BIRRELL, Bristol, N.)It is intended to proceed with the application for a mandamus. The proceedings have been somewhat delayed by the regrettable illness of my learned friend the Attorney-General, but I hope that they will come on shortly.
