§ DR. COOPER (Southwark, Bermondsey)To ask the Postmaster-General whether he will give the number of male sorters employed on April 1st, 1906; the number of sorters in receipt of pensions on the same date; and the total amount paid to these officers on superannuation.
(Answered by Mr. Sydney Buxton.) The number of male sorters employed on April 1st, 1906, was 5,555. The number of sorters in receipt of pensions on the same date was 318, and the total amount paid to these officers on superannuation was £20,822 per annum, exclusive of pensions payable to officers of the supervising classes who had been promoted from the sorters' ranks.
