HC Deb 10 May 1906 vol 156 c1463
MR. JAMES MURRAY (Aberdeenshire, E.)

To ask the Secretary for Scotland whether he is aware that the sergeant, corporal, and privates of the prison guard in Peterhead Convict Prison, while performing similar duties to the guard of convict prisons in England, receive a lower scale of pay and of pension; and whether he will put them on the same footing as similar offices in England.

(Answered by Mr. Sinclair.) My attention has not before been directed to the matter referred to by the hon. Member, but it was inquired into in 1903 and it was then resolved to make no increase in the scale of pay. I may add that owing to differences of classification no very direct comparison can be drawn between the prison staffs of Scotland and England.
