HC Deb 08 May 1906 vol 156 cc1162-3
MR. LEA

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department †See Col. 979. whether he has received an appeal on behalf of the Metropolitan Police asking that they should be allowed at least one day's rest in every week; and whether, in view of the duties this body of public servants have to discharge in the Metropolis, he is prepared to concede this claim.

* Mr. GLADSTONE

I fear I can only refer the hon. Member to the Answer I gave yesterday to the hon. Member for Brixton†, to the effect that this privilege cannot be granted, as it would involve an additional expenditure of about £150,000 a year.

MR. LEA

Cannot they be given a fortnight's holiday yearly, instead of ten days?

* MR. GLADSTONE

I must have time to consider that.
