HC Deb 07 May 1906 vol 156 cc982-3
MR. CHARLES ROBEETS (Lincoln)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board, whether any Order was issued in 1904 prohibiting the registrars of births, deaths, and marriages from communicating particulars of the deaths occurring in their districts for publication in the local Press; and whether, if such an Order is now in force, there would be any objection to rescinding it.

MR. JOHN BURNS

There was no new Order on this subject in 1904, but in that year the Registrar-General issued a Circular with a view to the stricter observance of a regulation which had long been in force, and which forbids a registrar of births and deaths to publish any statement of facts respecting the registration of births or deaths without the permission of the Registrar-General. I am not prepared to interfere with the discretion of the Registrar-General in the matter.
