HC Deb 07 May 1906 vol 156 c1000
MR. GODFREY BARING (Isle of Wight)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether his attention has boon called to that passage in the Report of the Registrar-General dealing with the high death rate amongst infants; and whether he has considered the desirability of appointing a Royal Commission to inquire into infantile mortality and its causes.

THE PRIME MINISTER AND FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY (Sir H. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN,) Stirling Burghs

My attention has been called to the part of the Report referred to. The subject of infant mortality and its causes is receiving the careful consideration of the Government, but we do not see our way at present to the appointment of a Royal Commission to inquire into this most important subject.
