HC Deb 03 May 1906 vol 156 c734
MR. GINNELL

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland, in view of the practice of the Irish Land Commission in having valuations made, recorded, and calculated in a way differing from that laid down by statute, and giving decisions without stating any grounds upon which they are based, and the dissatisfaction which the Fry Commission reported to exist on account of this practice, and its present aggravation and continuance, whether he will have the practice of the Commission brought into conformity with the statute and with the practice of other courts.

MR. BRYCE

I am informed by the Land Commission that this Question is founded upon a misapprehension. As I have stated in reply to a previous Question of the hon. and learned Member, the practice of the Land Commission in having valuations made, recorded, and calculated is, they inform me, in accordance with the statutory provisions concerned. The schedules attached to all orders fixing fair rents set out in detail the various facts and circumstances considered, and in cases in which a special judgment is called for the reasons for the decision are stated in open court.
