HC Deb 03 May 1906 vol 156 cc705-6
MR. H. H. MARKS

To ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether it is the intention of the Government to give effect to the recommendation of the Departmental Committee of the Board of Agriculture on the Fruit Industry, that jam made wholly or in part from foreign fruit should have this fact clearly stated on the label of every pot or jar in which it is sold.

Answered by Sir H. Campbell-Bannerman.) No effect could be given to this recommendation without legislation amending the Merchandise Marks Act, † See col. 578. and such legislation could not be confined to a single article such as jam. I am not prepayed to introduce a measure of this kind.
