HC Deb 28 March 1906 vol 154 c1284
CAPTAIN CRAIG (Down, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland what scheme he proposes in order to increase the salaries of teachers in Irish elementary schools.

MR. BRYCE

I explained fully to the House last week that this matter rests primarily with the Commissioners of National Education;† and of course it rests also with the Treasury. They and the Irish Government will consider it in conjunction. I think the salaries of the teachers ought in many cases to be increased, but I can make no statement on the subject at present.
