§ CAPTAIN CRAIG (Down, E.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland what scheme he proposes in order to increase the salaries of teachers in Irish elementary schools.
MR. BRYCEI explained fully to the House last week that this matter rests primarily with the Commissioners of National Education;† and of course it rests also with the Treasury. They and the Irish Government will consider it in conjunction. I think the salaries of the teachers ought in many cases to be increased, but I can make no statement on the subject at present.
