§ MR. BELLAIRS (Lynn Regis)To ask the Secretary of State for War whether the number of men in the Regular Army is likely to fall short of the number voted; and, if so, whether he can state approximately the probable deficiency.
(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) I am afraid that I cannot give my hon. friend any even approximate figures. It is not practicable to forecast the state of recruiting for anything but a very short period ahead, and it is difficult to calculate probable extensions, re-engagements, and wastage for the next twelve months.
