HC Deb 28 March 1906 vol 154 c1240
MR. BELLAIRS (Lynn Regis)

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether the number of men in the Regular Army is likely to fall short of the number voted; and, if so, whether he can state approximately the probable deficiency.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) I am afraid that I cannot give my hon. friend any even approximate figures. It is not practicable to forecast the state of recruiting for anything but a very short period ahead, and it is difficult to calculate probable extensions, re-engagements, and wastage for the next twelve months.
