§ MR. HAVELOCK WILSONTo ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that dissatisfaction exists in the office of the Registrar-General of Shipping and Seamen with the remuneration of the staff; and whether, seeing that a Committee of Inquiry was promised some considerable time ago, he will make inquiries into the matter and appoint a Committee at an early date to investigate their alleged grievances.
(Answered by Mr. Lloyd-George.) I am aware that more than one petition has been sent in to the Board of Trade by clerks in the office of the Registrar-General of Shipping and Seamen, with regard to their pay and prospects. No promise of a Committee of Inquiry has been made, but the matter has received, and is receiving, consideration.
