HC Deb 26 March 1906 vol 154 c871
MR. JOYCE (Limerick)

I beg to ask the hon. Member for South Somerset, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture, whether the Committee appointed to inquire and report about the butter trade are likely to furnish their Report within the year; and, if so, whether it is proposed to introduce legislation this year; if not, what steps, if any, will be taken by the Government in the meantime to inspect factories where butter is manipulated.

* Mr. J. A. PEASE (for Sir EDWARD STRACHEY)

My hon. friend hopes that the Committee may report before the end of the session, but is afraid it may prove impracticable to introduce legislation on the subject this year. The Board of Agriculture have no power at present to inspect butter factories.

Mr. JOYCE

But if the owners are willing, will they be inspected?

* Mr. J. A. PEASE

I will bring the suggestion before my hon. friend, so that the point may be considered.
