HC Deb 22 March 1906 vol 154 cc598-9
MR. STANLEY WILSON (Yorkshire, E.R., Holderness)

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the sergeant-instructors allowed by Parliament to Volunteer corps are being withdrawn for courses of instruction during the training season March to September), when they are urgently required with their units; and whether he will issue instructions that they shall only be withdrawn between September and March.

(Answered by Mr. Haldane.) It is left to the discretion of general officers commanding to decide at what time of the year these men shall be attached to a regular unit or depot for period of instruction lasting fourteen days. It is impossible, therefore, to reply to the Question without referring to all general officers commanding, with whose discretion it would not appear expedient to interfere.
