§ MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in view of the fact that he is not prepared to impose a special tax on deer forests, salmon fishings, and grouse moors, he will consider the expediency of imposing a special tax on other objects of sumptuary expenditure, such as yachts and motor cars, other than those used for professional or business purposes.
§ MR. ASQUITHThe question of widening the range of taxation upon luxuries will have my serious consideration; but I cannot with advantage deal with specific proposals, except in connection with the financial system of the country as a whole in the annual Budget statement.
§ MR. WEIRhoped the right hon. Gentleman would take an early opportunity of considering the matter, as Scotland was much in need of money for public purposes.
