MR. ABEL SMITH (Hertfordshire, Hertford)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War what orders are likely to be given to the sword and bayonet department of the small arms factory during the current financial year.

MR. HALDANE

The patterns of both sword and bayonet are under consideration, and no manufacture of existing patterns is contemplated pending decision.

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War how many short rifles is it proposed to manufacture during the current financial year, and what proportion of that number will be allotted to the Enfield Small Arms Factory.

MR. HALDANE
