HC Deb 19 March 1906 vol 154 c61
MR. F. E. SMITH

To ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether the Admiralty have completed their experiments in manufactured tobacco for the Navy; whether he intends to invite tenders for the supply of such tobacco; and, if so, when.

(Answered by Mr. Edmund Robertson.) The supply of manufactured tobacco for the Navy is still in an experimental stage. A further and more extended trial of a blend milder than the ordinary Service tobacco has been arranged for, and when the results of this trial are known the Admiralty will be in a position to decide to what extent there is a desire on the part of the men for the introduction of such a manufactured tobacco, as an alternative to the ordinary Navy tobacco.
