HC Deb 15 March 1906 vol 153 c1397
MR. FIELD

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord - Lieutenant of Ireland whether his atteniton has been called to the effect on the trade by the restrictions at present in force regarding the importation of store pigs from Ireland into Great Britain; and whether, in conjunction with the Board of Agriculture for Great Britain, he will ask the Department of Agriculture in Ireland to consider such modifications as may be safely introduced to enable greater facilities of movement.

(Answered by Mr. Bryce): The movement of store swine from Ireland into into Great Britain was prohibited by an order of the English Board of Agriculture and Fisheries which came into operation in January, 1905. That order has recently been modified by a further order of the same Board, the effect of which was stated in my reply to a Question of the hon. Member for North Longford on the 7th instant.† When some further experience has been gained of the working of the new order, the Department of Agriculture in Ireland will be in a position to determine whether they can, with advantage, make representations to the English Board of Agriculture for a further relaxation of the restrictions.
