§ MR. WALTER LONG (Dublin, S.)To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been called to the floods which took place last year in Little Bray; whether he is aware that no steps have been taken to prevent a recurrence of the danger; and whether he can see his way to call the attention of the county council to the matter.
(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) The county council of Wicklow have had this matter before them on more than one occasion, and the Local Government Board on 18th December last, in response to the council's application, sanctioned a loan of £3,500 for the purpose of making good the damage caused by the floods referred to. The county council have been advised that their powers do not enable them to deepen the river (a course suggested by their county surveyor), which might possibly be a safeguard against a recurrence of the danger.
