HC Deb 15 March 1906 vol 153 cc1411-2
MR. OSMOND WILLIAMS

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the See (4) Debates, cliii., 297. Home Department whether his attention has been drawn to the death of William Crook, a Bury boy, aged thirteen years, who died, in the beginning of February last, as the result of injuries received from bullying on board the "Clio" training-ship, stationed on the Menai Straits; and whether the officers in charge of the "Clio" have been censured for allowing the possibility of such bullying taking place.

* MR. GLADSTONE

I have had this unfortunate case under my consideration. The coroner's jury brought in a verdict of death from misadventure, and though it is much to be regretted that no one heard of the assault in time to prevent the injuries of the boy, I am not prepared to say that this was the result of any neglect of duty. My inquiries into the matter are not yet finished.
