HC Deb 14 March 1906 vol 153 cc1256-7
MR. DUFFY

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland, if any communication has been received by the Estates Commissioners, respecting the allocation of the Goodbody estate, near Athenry, from the people of Athenry; and, having regard to the fact that a number of the townspeople have been in possession of portions of the estate for close on half a century, is it the intention of the Commissioners to deprive these people of the accommodation which they have enjoyed so long.

* MR. BRYCE

The estate in question was purchased by the Department of Agriculture for their own particular purposes; but the Department re-sold to the Estates Commissioners portion of the lands for distribution among the existing tenants of the estates, many of whose holdings were uneconomic. The Estates Commissioners have already distributed the land so purchased by them among the tenants in question.

MR. DUFFY

How many people applied for land.

* MR. BRYCE

I should like notice of that Question.
