HC Deb 13 March 1906 vol 153 cc1088-9
MR. HAROLD COX

To ask the Secretary of State for War to what † See (4) Debates, clii., 1301. extent commissions in His Majesty's Army are reserved for the sons of colonists; and whether any reciprocal arrangements have been made by which commissions in the regular forces of the self-governing Colonies are reserved for Englishmen, Scotchmen, or Irishmen.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) A certain number of commissions are allotted annually to candidates from the local military forces of each Colony and to students in the chartered universities in the Colonies, but hitherto the number of commissions allotted has not been taken up. I am not aware that any commissions in the regular forces of the self-governing Colonies are reserved in the manner alluded to in the Question.
