HC Deb 13 March 1906 vol 153 cc1079-80
MR. T. F. RICHARDS (Wolverhampton, W.)

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether the fair wage contract clause is inserted in all Army contracts for boots and clothing, and what action is taken against contractors who are found to be evading its provisions.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) Yes, Sir. The clause is inserted in all Army contracts for boots and clothing. Any alleged case of evasion is thoroughly investigated, and such action is taken as is held to be appropriate to the particular case, but under any circumstances the contractor is compelled to pay the rate which is in accordance with the clause.
