HC Deb 12 March 1906 vol 153 cc867-8
MR. RADFORD (Islington, E.)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether he is aware that on the occasion of the visit of Inspector Pennythorne to His Majesty's prison at Pentonville, on 7th and 8th February, several officers fell out in accordance with the regulations and made certain complaints to the inspector; whether any official action has resulted; and whether any, and, if so, what steps have been taken to deal with such complaints.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Gladstone.) On the occasion referred to, four or five warders submitted a request for the grant of leave on account of their detention beyond ordinary hours on escort duty. The inspector explained to them the rule in force by which, except in special circumstances, either an allowance in money or equivalent leave is given, but not both, and the matter was understood to have ended there.
