§ MR. THOMAS SMYTH (Leitrim, S.)To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been called to a resolution adopted at a meeting of the Ballinamore Rural District Council on 22nd January 1906, protesting against the levying of a rate in aid being levied off the county Leitrim portion of the Bawnboy union in respect of works executed in the county Cavan portion of the same union, in pursuance of Section 13 of The Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898; and whether he will direct the Local Government Board to withhold their assent from such levy, or take such other steps as may be necessary to protect the ratepayers of county Leitrim.
(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) The attention of the Local Government Board has been called to the resolution in question. The Board have no power to alter the incidence of expenditure incurred in pursuance of Section 13 of The Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898.
