HC Deb 08 March 1906 vol 153 c641
SIR W. EVANS-GORDON (Tower Hamlets, Stepney)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he proposes to adopt the recommendations of the Joint Committee on Municipal Trading (1903) in regard to the standardisation of the municipal accounts and their subjection to the examination of independent professional auditors.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. JOHN BURNS,) Battersea

As regards the standardisation of the municipal accounts, I have appointed a Departmental Committee to inquire and report as to the system upon which the accounts of the various local authorities in England and Wales should be kept. I am considering the subject of the audit of the municipal accounts, but I could not promise to introduce legislation for the purpose of giving effect to the recommendations of the Joint Committee on Municipal Trading on this matter.
