HC Deb 08 March 1906 vol 153 c646
MR. WEIR (ROSS and Cromarty)

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland whether he is aware that the local authorities in the Island of Lewis are unable to give effect to the provisions of the Public Health (Scotland) Act, or take such action as may be necessary to remedy the insanitary state of the townships, as disclosed in the Report to the Local Government Board for Scotland on the sanitary condition of the Lews, by the Board's medical inspector, Dr. Dittmar; and will he say whether the Local Government Board for Scotland have yet considered the desirability of taking over the public health administration of the island.

MR. SINCLAIR

I am aware of the facts. No decision has been arrived at; but the matter is under the anxious consideration of the Local Government Board and myself.
