HC Deb 08 March 1906 vol 153 cc638-9
MR. BELL (Derby)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if he can state the total number of cases of engine-drivers, firemen, guards, and signalman employed on the British railways who had been on duty for thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen and eighteen hours and upwards per day for the month of March, 1905, and the total number employed in those grades; and if he will have the totals inserted in all Returns of such hours in future.

MR. LLOYD-GEORGE

It would be misleading to give the total number of instances of long hours for the different grades of railway men referred to in the Return issued for March, 1905, unless the total number of days worked was also shown. The Board of Trade have not got the latter information for the month in question, but in obtaining future Returns the information desired by the hon. Member will be furnished.
