(Answered by Mr. Stuart-Wortley.) The present staff of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners comprises a secretary, five other officers, forty-two clerks (including legal assistants), and eight subordinate officials on the permanent establishment, and thirty-one writers, typists, and others employed in temporary or non-pensionable capacities, in addition to porters, messengers, and domestic servants. The following table gives the amount spent in salaries and pensions respectively, for the years 1890 to 1905, both inclusive.
