HC Deb 07 March 1906 vol 153 cc428-9
MR. J. P. FAERELL (Longford, N.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether any modification will be made in the present order against the importation of Irish pigs into England; and, if so, when.

(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) The movement of store swine from Ireland to Great Britain was prohibited by an order of the English Board of Agriculture which came into operation in January, 1905. That order has recently been modified by a further order of the same Board, which carne into force on the 1st instant, and which allows store swine to be sent direct from their homestead in Ireland to a place of destination in Great Britain subject to specified conditions as to declaration, licence, and mode of transit, and to the further requirement that the animals must in every instance be detained and isolated for twenty-eight days following arrival at the destination indicated in the licence. I have sent a copy of this order to the hon. Member.
